Business Improvement


The situation

An international manganese mine with operations in South Africa faced growing internal and external pressure to get more value from operations at a lower cost.  DBA implemented it’s bespoke business improvement methodology to create a well governed in-house function with a portfolio of 17 prioritised productivity initiatives.

The DBA involvement


Our key activities included:​​

  • Defined and implemented a fit-for-purpose business improvement process

  • Established a structure with accountabilities and governance

  • Facilitated idea generation sessions and the development of an initiatives portfolio to value and deliver immediate productivity improvements.  This also helped to provide a channel for the mining team's creative ideas and solutions to obtain resources for implementation.

Key outcomes

  • On-site and independent ability to create, maintain and deliver ongoing, sustainable productivity and cost improvements

  • Over R20M in value identified from 17 different, prioritised initiatives, all with detailed business cases and owners

  • Business improvement governance for ongoing monitoring of portfolio and identification of new opportunities
