Nikhil Datta

Managing Partner 
Practice Head, Strategy

Nikhil has over 20 years of expertise in corporate and business unit strategy, operational turnarounds, capital planning and optimisation, sustainable cost reduction and throughput improvement, working with some of the largest multinationals in Africa, Asia and Australia.  In addition to being Managing Partner, Nikhil heads DB & Associates’ strategy practice, advising clients across a range of industries including media, manufacturing and mining.

Tamara Griffin

Tamara is a Business Development Advisor with over 12 years of experience in a variety of sectors.  She has worked internationally, both for a local British government organisation and more recently for the international trade office of the British Government in South Africa.  There she headed up the Inward Investment team developing business opportunities for South African companies looking to invest internationally.  Tamara is now broadening her experience in the private sector and offering her expertise by identifying new business prospects for DB & Associates' team of specialists.

David Kitchen

Partner 
Practice Head, Resources and Heavy Industry

David has over 30 years of operational experience in large scale infrastructure, capital projects, and process automation applications in Africa and Europe.  He was previously CEO of Honeywell’s Africa operations and has worked on numerous operational turnaround, mine restructuring, and optimisation projects in platinum, gold, mineral sands and aluminium.

Maritza Smith

Maritza is a dedicated and skilled administrative professional with a versatile support skillset developed over 14 years as an Executive Personal Assistant.  She started her career as a cashier and with lots of hard work, determination and self-motivation, she sculpted her career, climbed the corporate ladder and now works side-by-side with senior executives.

Thando Moutlana

 

Thando is a strong entrepreneurship professional with a MBA from Hult International Business School.  Her skillset includes business process re-engineering, performance improvement, business planning, process engineering, and strategic planning, specifically in the food and beverages industry. 

Halvor Rosholt

After graduating from the University of Cape Town with an Economics Degree, Hal spent two years in the Barlow Group in the UK before returning to South Africa to join the Rennies Group, where he was involved in their shipping and transport, travel, and trucking division.  He later spent two years on secondment in Taiwan and Hong Kong with Rennies’ then parent company, Jardine, Matheson & Co, in their ship owning and agency subsidiaries.  He returned to South Africa to rejoin the Barlow Group, and for the next few years ran businesses including metal fabrication, appliance manufacturing, timber merchanting and, finally in the unbundled Nampak Group, security printing.  Appointed later to run Nampak’s environmental and corporate affairs portfolios, he spent five years in the Group Head Office, before striking out on his own, consulting within the tourism industry to the Hollard Group. 

Adv Dr Andy Schmulow

Andy has been admitted to the degrees of BA Honours LLB (Witwatersrand), GDLP (cum laude) (ANU), and PhD (Melbourne).  He is an Advocate of the High Court of South Africa, and admitted by the Supreme Court of Victoria as an Australian Legal Practitioner.  In 2014 he founded Clarity Prudential Regulatory Consulting, Pty Ltd.  Andy has provided advice to the South African Treasury on their adoption of the Twin Peaks financial regulatory model, and currently serves on an independent expert panel convened by Treasury to provide advice on the Conduct of Financial Institutions (COFI) Bill.

Chris Rosholt

Since graduating with an MBA from the University of Witwatersrand School of Business, Chris has spent more than 40 years primarily in the mining and steel related industries in South Africa, the USA, Zimbabwe, China and Japan.  He is currently assisting a significant South African engineering company re-enter the Zimbabwean market after an absence of some years. 

Peter Newman

Partner 
Practice Head, Manufacturing

Peter has extensive experience within financial services having worked for more than 30 years in insurance, financial services consulting and manufacturing.  Peter's experience includes assisting large organisations throughout the production value chain - including sale effectiveness, S&OP, workforce productivity, cost optimisation and operating efficiency. He also leads DB & Associates’ business development activities in Southern Africa.

Steve Winfield

Steve has over 17 years of industry and consulting experience.  He has taught and implemented Lean Enterprise tools, techniques and philosophy in Peru, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Botswana, UAE, South Africa and the USA.  He has also developed, taught and implemented process excellence tools in industrial and service environments.  He has managed numerous consulting engagements in the mining, banking, automotive, insurance, tourism, pharmaceutical, electronics, sales and distribution, government, quasi-government, manufacturing and consumer industries worldwide.

Norman Keel

Norman has 10 years of experience in operations management consulting in a broad spectrum of industries from financial services to mining.  His consulting career incorporates over 20 implementation projects with various improvement goals in mind.  He previously has had lengthy workspells in the banking sector as well as in the publishing industry. 

Caroline Dean

Caroline is a marketing professional with over 14 years of experience. Previously working for the international trade office of the British Government in South Africa, she managed the planning, implementation and delivery of strategies of marketing, advertising, promotional activities, and business events in-line with organisational objectives.  Having seized the many opportunities presented in her field in the public sector, she is now furthering her career in the private sector, first by working to spearhead a campaign to develop a digital presence and brand awareness programme for a group of recruitment companies, and now providing research, knowledge management and marketing support to DB & Associates' team of specialists.

Marius Lombard

Marius has a strong experience base in manufacturing and mining, combining his analytical skills and first-hand experience of managing large scale projects with significant operational improvement deliverables across various operations throughout Africa.  He has delivered projects in various industries including industrial manufacturing, integrated mining operations, financial services, security services, pharmaceutical manufacturing, metal processing, food and beverage manufacturing, warehousing, retail, logistics and distribution.  His expertise lies in the ability to drive and secure the required behavioural changes linked with operational improvements to achieve the required results.

Leslie Linström

Leslie is an industrial engineer with over 20 years of management consulting experience in a range of industries such as mining, manufacturing, packaging, processing, life assurance and financial services.  He delivers high-quality outputs based on sound research and analysis related to strategy, decision analytics and support, business process and capacity improvement, financial and risk modelling, and project management.

Poloko Khabele

Poloko has hands-on experience in operational improvements and change management.  By using his extensive consulting toolkit, he helps organisations to understand the 'As-Is Situation', develop the 'To-Be State', and manages that transition.  His business and consulting experience spans several industries in South Africa and abroad.  Sectors include the public sector (South Africa’s largest State Owned Enterprises), FMCG, mining and construction.  He has an MBA from one of South Africa’s leading business schools, a Post Graduate Diploma in Management Accounting and a BCom in Accounting.

Mervyn Mitchell

As a Consultant in public and private practice, Mervyn has over the last 20 years, completed successful projects in sectors such as health, automotive manufacturing, FMCG, construction and financial services.  This experience covers a host of aspects from cost reduction exercises to productivity and business process improvement.  He has worked in the maintenance field as well as the production environment and has a specialised skillset in short-term project improvements such as annual maintenance shut-downs.  He has performed these functions internationally, in Africa as well as in South Africa.

Anthony Pienaar

Anthony is a driven, dedicated self-starter, who is passionate about achieving results.  This includes assisting organisations to focus on opportunities that will drive improvements in their business performance and results, by using industry recognised best practices.  This is achieved through a process of analysis and definition of the problems, joint solution design and development, and team-based solution implementation.  All backed up with a change management intervention to ensure solution sustainability.

Mark Lee

Mark is an experienced business professional with over 28 years of experience in the field of performance improvement and implementation consulting.  He has led over 70 analysis and consulting engagements in Africa, Europe, North America, South America, Asia and Australia.  Mark has held senior roles in both business development, project management and organisational analysis for numerous international consultancies.  An affable, focused and well organised individual, Mark has the ability to interact at both Board and lower levels of clients’ businesses.  He has built up a depth of expertise, analysing and developing improvement strategies for organisations in strategy development, sales and operational planning,supply chain, operations management and organisational development.

Jaz Vanmali

Jaz has over 25 years of experience in the financial sector, having worked at Nedbank, Citibank and for the last 15 years at Standard Bank.  She has a wide-ranging knowledge of the corporate sector in South Africa and Africa. She led the client coverage team for Standard Bank serving major corporates operating in Africa from all over the world in the construction, cement and infrastructure sectors.  She has been a strong supporter of infrastructure development working alongside clients in developing projects to successful bankability.

Sherina Januk

Sherina has vast experience in the financial services and management consulting industry, with over 17 years combined.  She has managed teams in the banking sector ensuring that compliance and risk is matched to industry standard.  She was also instrumental in many successful projects across diverse industries within financial services, manufacturing, retail and natural resources throughout Sub-Saharan Africa and internationally.  As a member of the Business Development Team, Sherina offers her wealth of experience and knowledge to identify new business prospects for DB & Associates' team of specialists.

Refilwe Mauda

Refilwe has an MBA from the Gordon Institute of Business Science - University of Pretoria and a B.Com in Finance and Economics 

from the University of Cape Town.  She has vast experience in a range of sectors working for a private equity fund, a government freight and rail company, Johannesburg's Metro Municipality, an investment holding company and a private equity house.  Her skills involved providing advice, due diligence, project management, operational improvement, organisational structure development, and business strategy development. Her strengths lie in hypothesis-driven problem solving, synthesis of information and distilling insights, client relationship management, and financial modelling and analysis.

Pam Lewis

Thapedi Kgodungwe

Thapedi is a business process improvement specialist with seven years of consulting and industry experience.  His expertise includes training design and delivery, evaluation, testing, organisational development, management, marketing, project management, and performance improvement.  He has led several process improvement efforts, as identified through business reviews, and mapped new process improvements with control and optimisation strategies.
